6 Essential Steps to Promote Your Freebie
Do you keep hearing the phrase ‘The money is in your list?' Have you worked hard to build your Facebook page, but can't work out how to turn your fans into email subscribers? Do people keep telling you that you need to have a lead magnet to entice people onto your list, but you don't knowย what to do next?
So,you work hard on creating a fantastic e-book, checklist or freebie, and are all set to build your list with it. But then comes the difficult part: how do you actually get people to sign up to receive your lead magnet? How do youย promote it and entice people to give you their email address?
Here are my 6 Essential Steps:
1. Create an Irresistible Offer
Your lead magnet should be something that offers so much help and value that your ideal customer would pay money for it…..but you are giving it for free! If you're not sure what to offer, why not ask your customers. Create a simple survey and ask where they most need help. Use the answers to create a lead magnet that solves their main issues.
2. Create a Squeeze Page
A squeeze page is simply a web page where you sell your offer. It is where you entice people to submit their email address in exchange for your lead magnet. Your squeeze page is therefore a core part ofย your opt-in process. It doesn't need toย be lengthy: key elements areย an attention grabbing headline; simple bullet points to outline the benefits of your freebie; and a sign up form.
3. Create a Thank You Page
As soon as someone has signed up to receive your freebie, they should be taken to a Thank You page. This is where you thank them for subscribing, and can also give any instructions about how to download the lead magnet, or to complete the sign up process. But it is also an important stage in tracking the success of your opt-in process, as anyone landing on this page has essentially signed up for you offer.
4. Set Up Your Autoresponder
You will need an email autoresponder service to collect the email addresses submitted by people who sign up for your freebie. I recommend and use Mailchimp, but other popular services are Aweber and Mad Mimi. Your autoresponder list should be connected to your squeeze page so that email addresses automatically go to your list. You can also use your autoresponder to send a welcome email, and deliver your lead magnet.
5.ย Drive Traffic to Your Squeeze Page
Now you are all set up, you need to consider how you will promote your offer and drive traffic to your squeeze page. There are lots of ways to do this: add sign up forms to your website and blog; use Facebook ads; post about it on your social media sites. The list is endless, so it is important you have a strategy for doing this, and consider allocating budget to promoting your freebie.
6. Track Results
It is important that you track the number of leads moving through your opt-in funnel, from the level of traffic generated by your ads and promotions, through to the final number of sign ups you receive on your list. If you are using Facebook ads, make sure you add a tracking pixel to your Thank You page, so you know if your ad is effective or not, and can take action to tweak and review it if necessary.
With these 6 steps in place, you are all set to promote your freebie and build your list.
