The snow may have been falling thick and fast across the UK, but some enterprising businesses have turned to social media to beat the impact of the freeze on loyal customers.
Heavy snowfalls in Edinburgh meant that Edinburgh Zoo had to close it's doors for most of last week. However, they turned to Twitter to help people find an alternative way of watching the latest antics of the most famous of the Zoo residents – the penguins!
Tweets were sent out to publicise use of the live Penguin cam, which overlooks the gentoo penguin area. And, as these were passed among Twitter followers, the Penguin cam became the Top Twitter search on Sunday, with 10 searches per minute being tracked!
Not only was the story featured on Scottish news reels – it was even picked up on the other side of the world by Sky News in Australia!
The penguins are no strangers to social media though. They even feature on the Edinburgh Zoo You Tube Channel, and are loved by all on the Edinburgh Zoo Facebook Page.
You can watch the penguins too. Just visit the Penguin cam at http://www.edinburghzoo.org.uk/EZPenguinCam.html or on You Tube at http://www.youtube.com/TheEdinburghZoo
